Date: October 7th 2011
The Mt. Hood Chapter would like to invite you all to join us
for an evening of celebrating the PCT on Monday, November 7th, 7:30 p.m.
at the Powell's Books on Hawthorne, 3723 SE Hawthorne
Blvd., Portland. For readings from the two-volume Pacific Crest
Trailside Reader that pulls together nearly 100 stories from
contemporary hiker/writers, historical journals, and classic environmental
authors. The stories capture the diversity of people and experiences
found along the 2,650 miles of the PCT . . . from getting lost or found,
encounters with animals, enduring extremes of weather, and provide a taste of
the culture and history of the trail.
Area contributors including Mark Larabee (editor of
the Pacific Crest Trail Association publication "The Communicator"
and former journalist for The Oregonian), Carolyn "Sweet Goat Mama",
and Lynn Wunische will join book editor, Rees Hughes, in reading their stories
from the anthology. If you are a thru-hiker, a section hiker, a day hiker
or an arm chair hiker, join us for this evening of laughter, reflection, and
celebration around this premier National Scenic Trail.
These
are their stories in the anthology:
Mark
Larabee, "Measuring Time on the Pacific Crest Trail"
Carolyn
Eddy, "The Old Gal and Sweet Goat Mama Hike the PCT"
Lynn
Wunische, "Gift from the Trail"
Rees
Hughes, "Walking in 5-7-5”
Hope you can make it out for a great evening!
