2010 Wilderness Stewards Training

Required Events 
        Thursday, April 22 - Introductory Training - 7-9 pm @ Mazama Mountaineering Center 
o        Join us the evening of Earth Day to discuss plans for the upcoming Wilderness Stewards season.

        Roles & Responsibilities of Wilderness Stewards 
        Leave No Trace Discussion 
        Presentation of Summer 2010 projects 
o        Come prepared with your calendars, questions, and ideas. 

        Saturday, May 1 - Full-Day Training - 8:30-4:00 @ Zigzag Ranger District - Evergreen Room 
o        Building upon our first meeting, we will dive in to the practical aspects of being a Wilderness Steward. We will also be setting dates for the summer, so start sorting out when you will be able to volunteer.

        Safety Overview (JHA) 
        Leave No Trace Discussion continued 
        Connecting with the Public 
        Law Enforcement 
        Bookwork - Occupancy in sites & permit compliance

        Northwest Forest Pass Explanation 
o        What to bring: Please bring a lunch, your calendar, and a smile 
Note: Part of the day will be spent outside, so please dress appropriately! 

Supplementary Event: 
        April 16-18 - PCTA Trail Skills College - Cascade Locks Marine Park. 
o        The Pacific Crest Trails Association will be holding this free and excellent trail skills college in the Gorge.

Volunteers for the Mount Hood Chapter of the Pacific Crest Trail Association maintain the 217 miles of PCT between Midway Meadows south of Washington's Goat Rocks Wilderness and Park Ridge in Oregon's Mount Jefferson Wilderness.
