Date: January 24th 2016
Hello everyone,
Here is another opportunity to get out and work on the trails this winter! We need
at least 4 volunteers to logout the Oneonta Trail below Triple Falls on Saturday, January 30th (this is in the Gorge). (If we can get
additional sawyers we can split into two groups.)
There are 17 trees between 8" and 15" in diameter across the trail - all within ΒΌ mile of the top of Triple Falls. This is in wilderness so the crew will
be using crosscut saw equipment.
This would be a good opportunity for new cross cut sawyers to get some experience on the trail! You would have time to cut and be a swamper. We are looking
to get our sawyers out for more experience!!
The downside: the hike is moderately difficult but short. We have to cross a recent rock fall. Round-trip distance is about 5 miles. 600' elevation gain. Each volunteer will be asked to carry up to 10 lbs. of tools and equipment.
The upside: you get to be outdoors and hiking and working on the trail!! Right?
You will need to dress for the weather, please wear layers (no cotton, we don’t want hyperthermia) and you will need to wear good work boots and if you have it a hard hat. Obviously gloves; both warm for while hiking and then work gloves for cutting and moving
logs.
You will also need to bring your lunch, snacks and fluids (some folks bring a thermos with warm drink or broth in it, nice out there). It will be a full
day, so bring enough to keep you going.
We will provide all the tools and instructions needed for the crew. We will also provide hard hats and work gloves too.
Because we will be working in an area of steep slopes, this project is weather dependent and may need to be rescheduled on short notice. So please include your phone number when replying to get on the crew.
We will not be able to clear this area in one day so there will be a follow-up crew.
Okay, so doesn’t this sound like a great time?? If so, hit reply or send me an e-mail at
tturner@pcta.org and I’ll get you on the crew list, please remember to include your phone number.
After the crew has been filled, the crew leader, David Roe, will send out an e-mail with all the particulars about meet up place and time and any carpooling opportunities.
Have fun out there,
Tammy
