Date: December 3rd 2015
Hello folks,
Here is another trail crew opportunity for you! This one we need
6-8 volunteers on Saturday, December 12th to work on Nesmith Point Trail in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. The hiking distance will be
3-4 miles round trip. The crew leader is Robert Caldwell.
This trail has not had much maintenance recently and is needing lots of care. We will be restoring the proper trail width and tread, and trimming brush from the trail. We may also work on
an eroded switchback thru a scree slope.
Special Notes: This is a steep and strenuous trail, be sure you are in good shape before responding. This time
of year the weather can vary greatly, especially in the Gorge. Hopefully we will have good weather and get some good work done. If needed we will adjust the work based on the weather we get, be prepared for wet and cold. If it looks like we will be getting
a severe storm, we may need to cancel on short notice.
You will need to bring your lunch, water and snacks for the day. Also you will need to wear long pants, long sleeves and good, sturdy boots. Please be sure to have weather appropriate clothing
and please don’t wear cotton layers, they can contribute to hyperthermia. Good comfortable work gloves and a hard hat if you have it.
We will provide all the tools, hard hats and instructions that might be needed. Also we will have some work gloves if you don’t have any.
So does this sound like a good time and something that will fit in your schedule? Please hit reply or send me an e-mail at
tturner@pcta.org and I’ll get you on the list. Once the crew is full, Robert will send out an e-mail with all the meet up particulars and times.
Thanks for considering this one,
Tammy
