Date: April 27th 2015

Hello volunteers,

I sent this out to our first timers from Trail Skills College, but we still have room on the crew! But perhaps you didn’t get to go to TSC and would like to go out on a crew that will be geared for learning the basics.

We still need 4 volunteers for Saturday May 9th to do Tread Work on the PCT at the Bridge of the Gods, Oregon side.

We’ll be improving the tread along a stretch of PCT.  This work party is intended for novice trail maintainers, however all are welcome!  No experience required.  We will spend a little more time at the trailhead talking safety and tools.  We’ll help you out at the work site explaining what needs to be done and why and helping you do excellent work.

You will need to wear long pants, long sleeves and sturdy boots, these are required by the Forest Service and there isn’t any wiggle room in these requirements. However, it is Oregon so you should be prepared for rain or really nice weather, so bring rain gear and/or sun block.

You will also need to bring your lunch, snacks and water for the day. If you already have a hard hat, please bring it as well. You will need to have a good pair of work gloves too.

We will provide all the tools needed, hard hats and we will have gloves as well, but these might not be a matching pair and may not be as comfortable as your very own! As stated above, we will provide all instruction needed and we encourage questions and comments too.

Your round trip hiking mileage will be less than 4 miles.

Crew Leaders:  Roberta Cobb and Carole Dearholt

So, does this work for your schedule and sound like something you want to do? Then hit the reply button or send me an e-mail at tturner@pcta.org and I’ll get you on the crew list. Once the crew is full, the crew leaders will then send out the “particulars e-mail” which will tell you when & where to meet, carpool opportunities and other information you will need.

Thanks again and hope to meet you out there sometime,

Tammy

p.s. There will be other Beginner/Novice crews, so if you can’t make this one, we do have another planned on May 30th, with others in the works.
