Date: September 9th 2014

Hello everyone,

Here’s an opportunity to get out on the trail and get some tread work done on Waucoma Ridge. We need up to 12 volunteers to help with this crew on Saturday September 20th, approximately 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Crew Leader: Leif Hovin

Carpooling from Portland & Hood River are options and can be worked out with the crew leader.

The plan is to hike south on the PCT, along Waucoma Ridge. The tread had some build up with debris and slough and needs to rebenched. We will be scraping the tread to get the slough off the trail and back to the full spec width and level, plus taking all the organic debris on the trail off. This area is blessed as being high on the ridge, with no drainage issues. Total hiking will be 7 miles.

This will be a long day, so pack a lunch, snacks, and plenty of water, as it's dry along the ridge. Wear long pants, long sleeve, and sturdy boots, plus comfortable gloves to handle the tools, and don't forget your NW Forest Pass if you are driving.

We will provide all the tools and instructions needed, plus hardhats. Safety glasses recommended, which we can provide a few as well. We will also have work gloves available, but they aren’t as comfy as your own<smile>!!

This is a great time of year to be out on the trail. Leif is offering to buy a round for the crew at the end of the day, in Parkdale (with a great view), if the timing works out.

So if this sounds like your kind of day. . . hit the reply button or send me an e-mail at tturner@pcta.org and I’ll get you on the list for this crew.

Thank you for considering working on this crew!

Tammy
