Good Afternoon All,

 

Thank you all for completing the rescheduled doodle poll for the first meeting of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest Wilderness Stewardship Group.

 

Along with Gabe Snider, Wilderness Program Manager for the Mount Adams District of the GPNF Forest Service, and Brendan Norman of the Mount Adams Institute, I invite you to attend the rescheduled first meeting of the GPNF Wilderness Stewardship Group. The first meeting will take place Thursday, March 1st from 1- 4p.m. in the board room at the Port of Hood River.

 

Gabe, Jessica, and Brendan will co-lead the first meeting. The meeting is designed to introduce you all to the idea of the Wilderness Stewardship Group and discuss concepts for our first on the ground project- Invasive Weed Treatment Program. There will be time during the meeting to discuss ideas for other projects and Wilderness needs. Please review the attached agenda. If there is something you would like me to add to the agenda please let me know as soon as possible.

 

We hope to see you all at the meeting and look forward to establishing the GPNF Wilderness Stewardship Group focused on valuable on the ground projects in the GPNF wilderness areas. Good Evening,

 

Since we had to cancel our first meeting of the Wilderness Stewardship Group I am writing now to ask you all to fill out a new doodle pool so we can reschedule the meeting to a new date.

 

If you are interested in joining us in late Feb. or very early March please fill out the doodle pool (link below) by February 10, 2012 as to the date/dates you are available for a half day meeting in either the AM (9- noon) or PM (1-4).

Details for the first meeting will be sent out by Monday, Feb. 13th.

 

The first meeting will take place in Hood River, Oregon or Trout Lake, Washington and will cover the basics of the group including why the group is being established and what the first project will be focused on for the year. We hope to see you at the meeting and look forward to establishing the GPNF Wilderness Stewardship Working Group focused on valuable on the ground projects in the GPNF wilderness areas.

After receiving several weather advisory notifications for the Gorge and Hood River we have made the decision to CANCEL today’s meeting  1 p.m. meeting in Hood River for the Gifford Pinchot National Forest Wilderness Stewardship Group. We apologize about the inconvenience of the last minute notification.  

 

Gabe, Brendan and I will work on organizing another meeting for a later date. I will notify you all with the new meeting date, time and location when we have that information. My name is Jessica Walz Schafer and I am writing this morning because you or your group has been identified as an organization that may want to learn more about an exciting new wilderness stewardship group on the Gifford Pinchot National Forest(GPNF).

 

Congressionally designated wilderness areas are special places set aside to provide an alternative to an increasingly developed and populated society.  And while wilderness provides a plethora of ecological and social benefits, we need your help to steward these valuable resources.

 

Along with Gabe Snider, Wilderness Program Manager for the Mount Adams District of the GPNF Forest Service, and Brendan Norman of the Mount Adams Institute, I invite you to attend the first meeting of the GPNF Wilderness Stewardship Working Group in January or early February 2012.

Volunteers for the Mount Hood Chapter of the Pacific Crest Trail Association maintain the 217 miles of PCT between Midway Meadows south of Washington's Goat Rocks Wilderness and Park Ridge in Oregon's Mount Jefferson Wilderness.
