Another Trail Angel Request

Replies to our last Trail Angel request were unbelievably overwhelming. Here's another one from a New York visitor that's a bit more complicated. However, we have learned never to underestimate the power of the Mt. Hood Angels. If you can help David partially or completely, hit the reply button, e-mail <jjk-jsk@comcast.net, or phone (503)579-2841 and we will forward the replies to him.

Thanks,

Subject: Help for 2010 PCT Ride to and from Trailhead

Dana,

Thank you for your email of 3/18.  You mentioned that you would be sharing my ride request with Jack Konner.  Perhaps he put my request on the web site.  I ended up making a motel reservation for July 30 at the Columbia Gorge Inn.  It is cheap but hopefully ok for my overnight before starting the trail.  Any chance I could meet you in Cascade Locks late Friday July 30?

I did receive a number of potential ride offers to my general request that was posted to a web site of the PCTA (or associated with the PCTA).  My goal in this email response is to provide the specific dates and trailhead sites and let people respond accordingly.  I thank you for your generosity and any help to this PCT section hiker and my two friends joining me on this trip.  As a minimum, we want to reimburse for all vehicle expense.

This yearÂ’s PCT trip for me is in two phases.  It will be my 20th section hike, having previously completed all trail miles up to the Columbia River.  The first phase will by a three day solo hike. The second phase will be a eight day hike with my friend Peter and his teen-age son Ben.

On Friday, July 30, I fly into Portland from my home in upstate NY, arriving about noon.  That afternoon I plan to obtain fuel and visit a friend in Vancouver, whom I have not seen in 42 years.  I think that I may have a way to get to Cascade Locks via the Skamania County bus from Vancouver for an overnight stay, leaving Vancouver about 6 pm.  I will start the PCT at the Bridge of the Gods on
Saturday, July 31 and end that hike on Monday, August 2 at Road 65 near Panther Creek Campground.  I will need a ride that afternoon from there to the McMenamins Edgefield Lodge in Troutdale, where I will meet up with my two other hiking partners.

On Tuesday, August 3, Peter, Ben and I need a ride from the McMenamins Edgefield Lodge in Troutdale to our trailhead on Natl. Forest Road 24, southwest of Mount Adams, arriving as early in the day as practical.

On Tuesday, August 10, we will end our trip at Highway 12 at White Pass.  From there in the afternoon, we will need transportation back to the Edgefield Lodge site.

In 2011, my goal is to return and hike the PCT through the Indian Heaven Wilderness area, and from White Pass to Snoqualmie Pass.

Thank you for your initial response and your consideration of this more specific request.  I look forward to hearing from you again.  My wife and I are going on a wedding anniversary trip from May 10 to May 27 so I will not respond to your reply till after May 27.
