Hello all,
Here’s a crew coming up, that looks like a lot of fun and you get to camp out! We need
4 more volunteers to help Mt. Hood Chapter finish the season strong with a short trip to repair poor trail drainage systems on
October 16 & 17 (camp Friday night and work on Saturday).
You will work on a 300-400' section of the PCT, constructing drain dips and filling in eroded sections of trail. This is a great project to
learn one of the fundamentals of trail design - how to keep water off the trail!
There is camping on Friday night at the County Park in Trout Lake. Water/toilets are available. Cost is ~$10/night. Trailhead is ~30 minute
drive from the park.
Sunlight is of a premium at this time of year. However, the mosquito population is basically taken care of! Although this is a self-supported
project with no food provided, Friday night can be a potluck in the County Park. We'll provide snacks that evening in the form of chips, dips, and veggies. Volunteers must bring breakfast, lunch and snacks for Saturday. Depending on desires, Huckleberry Cafe
is available for dinner on Saturday night. (Friday night as well!)
Volunteers will wear long pants and long sleeves and sturdy boots for the day of trail work. You will need a pair of good, comfortable work
gloves as well. You might want to have weather appropriate clothes as well, read rain gear & warm clothes! If you own a hard hat, bring it along as well.
We will provide all the tools and instructions needed to get the job done! We will also provide hard hats for any that don’t have one. We will
have a few pairs of gloves, but we can’t promise a comfortable fit<smile>!
So does this sound like good fit for your schedule and interests?? Then hit the reply button or send me an e-mail at
tturner@pcta.org
Thanks for considering helping out with this one!
