Date: June 5th 2015
Hey there folks,
Here’s one for you!
Looking for an unusual way to spend flag day? We are looking for certified A and B cross cut sawyers and a few swampers to log out the PCT on Mt. Hood. We need
8 volunteers for this crew.
We can meet at Timberline Lodge, hike 2.2 miles to the Zig Zag overlook and soon after that we will find some logs down in the Zig Zag canyon. We will cross the Zig Zag river (a rock hop for you graceful people and calve deep for me this
week) and if time permits, hike a total of 4.2 miles and 5 minutes more to our last 2 logs. These of course, are the biggest logs.
By the way, swampers are the people who de-limb the log, debark the log, prepare the area, remove the log from the trail. Hard work! We also need people to hold hikers at bay while we work on the switchbacks of the Zig Zag canyon. First time trail workers
are very welcome on this crew, lots to learn!
Carpool options can be arranged from Portland.
Tools, hard hats, smelly gloves, and instruction provided. Please wear study boots, long pants, long sleeved shirt. Creek crossing shoes if you like. Bring drinks and lunch. Please bring any weather appropriate clothes, sunscreen and bug repellant too, just
in case.
