Date: May 28th 2015
Hello folks,
Here is another opportunity to get out and clean up the trail!
We are looking for a total of 6-8 volunteers, with
2 sawyers (A or B chainsaw cert) for the Indian Springs-Buck Peak Logout on
Saturday June 6th.
There are 10 logs and 4 clean ups (rotten logs on the trail), some big, some small, spread out over the trail. Will need to have 2 saw crews to cover the trail. There is work for all, from helping the sawyers clean up, some light tread
work, and brushing too, so there is work for all skill levels.
Plan is to cover the logs from Indian Springs, towards Buck Peak, so maximum hike will be a long one, almost 12 miles for one saw crew and less than 6 or 7 miles for the other saw crew. The trail is fairly level up on Waucoma Ridge. This
section of the PCT has incredible views into Eagle Creek Drainage, as well as views of Mt Hood, Mt St Helens, and Mt Adams.
This will be a long day, so pack a lunch, snacks, and plenty of water, as it's dry along the ridge. You need to wear long pants, long sleeves, and sturdy boots, plus bring comfortable gloves to handle the tools, and don't forget your NW
Forest Pass. Plan for rain or shine, especially this time of year. Safety glasses recommended.
We will provide all the tools and chainsaw gear for the sawyers. Hardhats will be provided, as well. This is a great time of year to be out on the trail. Sawyer PPE and chainsaws will be provided.
Car pool from the Gateway Transit Center is also possible, with an early morning meeting time, as well as Hood River and Wahtum Lake CG. The trailhead is about 2-1/2 hour drive, from Portland, thru Hood River, and about 2.5 miles SE of
Wahtum Lake CG. Directions available for those who are driving. It’s paved all the way to Wahtum Lake, but the last 2.5 miles of road are for higher clearance vehicles (SUV’s, Crossover’s, Subies, and Pick Ups).
So does this sound like something you’d like to work on? Please hit reply and I’ll get you on the crew list. This is just 9 days away, so please if you are thinking this will work for you, let me know asap!!
Thanks,
Tammy
