Date: June 29th 2014

Hey folks,

Read on, another great chance to get out in the woods and help out!

Here is an opportunity to work in the beautiful Indian Heaven Wilderness area with a log-out of Indian Heaven - North.

We are looking for at least 9-12 hearty volunteers .  Naturally enthusiastic first timers are welcome.  There will several seasoned crosscut sawyers on this work party to guide you through your first cuts.

Meet Saturday evening, July 12th and spend all day Sunday, July 13th on the log-out.  This section of trail has not been scouted yet so it will be a surprise for everyone. We will try to complete the entire 7.4 mile section in a single day.  We will camp Saturday evening at Falls Creek Horse Camp (pit toilet + picnic tables = luxury).  Early the next morning we will shuttle a three-person team to the north end of the section to Sawtooth TH and they will work their way south.  This team should experience smaller trees and, hopefully, move briskly. The rest of the group (two teams) will drive about three miles north to the Thomas Lake TH. We then hike in approximately two miles to Junction Lake and the PCT and the two teams will leap-frog each other heading north.  The plan is for all groups to meet and walk out to the Thomas Lake TH.  The focus will be on logging with tread work planned for a September work party.  This will be a challenging day, especially for those coming from the north end of the section.  But elevation gain shouldn't be more than 800'-1000' for any group.   So if you like using the crosscut saw and doing some hiking, this work party is for you.

PCTA will provide dinner on Saturday night and breakfast on Sunday morning.  Please bring your own food for lunch and snacks for Sunday.

A dinner stop on Sunday evening for a burger and a beer at Walking Man Brew Pub in Stevenson is optional but highly recommended.

PCTA will provide tools, safety equipment, and any instruction needed.

Volunteers should bring:  Camping gear for car camping one night, long pants, long-sleeve shirt, work or hiking boots (no running or trail shoes), gloves and safety glasses. Plus your lunch and snacks for Sunday.           A  NW Forest Pass is  required, however we will provide if you don't have one.
