Date: June 7th 2014
Hello Volunteers!
Here is a great opportunity to go out and work in the Mt. Adams area. This is a great place to work, lots of shade and some good elevation to get your exercise that day!
Mt. Adams Non-Wilderness Logout and Clean-Up
WHO: 6-10 Volunteers. Newcomers are always welcome, we will provide any instruction and guidance needed. We do need
2 sawyers (crosscut or chainsaw) with current "B" certification. None of the logs we know about are in wilderness, but this is a great opportunity for any newly-certified sawyer to get some practice.
WHEN: Saturday, June 28th. Meet at Trout Lake Ranger Station. The goal is to have the work done by 4 PM, with an optional, un-official visit to one of the brew-pubs in the area afterwards.
WHAT: Mt. Adams Non-Wilderness Log-Out and Tread/Drainage Repair.
There are 7 logs, 6-12" inches in diameter that we know about in the first mile from the trailhead. If snow levels permit, we may be hiking as much as 6 miles round-trip, with about 1000 feet of elevation gain.
Volunteers will be cleaning drain dips, performing minor tread repair, and working with the sawyers to help clear debris. Depending on time and the # of volunteers, we may also send a crew out Trail #64A (Riley Creek connector) to log
and clear, and some scouts farther up the trail into the wilderness area.
WHERE: Williams Mine Trailhead (approx. 15 miles N of Trout Lake, WA on FR-23) We will meet at the Trout Lake Ranger Station and drive up to the trail head together. Once we know who and how many, we will try and work out carpool arrangements,
so when you respond, please let us know if you'd be willing to be a carpool driver, need a ride, or prefer to drive yourself, etc.
PCTA will provide tools, safety equipment, and any instruction needed.
VOLUNTEERS WILL NEED TO PROVIDE: Personal food/snacks/water, long pants, long-sleeve shirt, work or hiking boots (not running shoes or trail runners), insect spray/sunscreen and weather-appropriate clothing. If you have your own
work gloves, you should bring them.
Crew leaders: Greg Mikol & Bob Arkes
So, if this sounds like your kind of crew, let me know by hitting the reply button or sending me an e-mail at
