Date: June 4th 2014

Hey Folks,

Here’s a great one coming up later in the month! Check out the information for it and if you are interested, you can send Bill Hawley an e-mail bhawley@pcta.org to get on the crew. Have fun out there, Tammy

Indian Heaven (south) Log-Out

Thursday June 19 thru Sunday June 22

Car-camping at Crest Camp

We are looking for 12- 14 volunteers to help with spring cleaning. This crew will work from Big Huckleberry Mt. to Junction Lake, in the heart of Indian Heaven Wilderness. At least 4 on the crew will need to have current saw certifications. We will need at least 1 power-brusher operator.

Note 1: we only need a couple people Thursday, our first day there.

Note 2: we need 1 Assistant Crew Leader.

Who:     We need several volunteers with little or no experience. This is a moderate to strenuous event. Participants will need to hike 6 – 10 miles each day, with tools, lunch, and water.

What:    Beyond the log clearing, we will brush back huckleberry and vine maple as well as make minor drainage repairs. This might include landslide work and cleaning up-hill drain ditches.

When:  Work will begin at 8:00 AM all days except Thursday – that will be about 10:00 AM.

Where: We will camp at Crest Camp (on Forest Road 60 - 2 miles east of FR 65) all nights. There are several primitive camp sites, an outhouse, and a couple picnic tables.

Meals:  Dinner will be provided:

Thursday, (Soup – Bread – Salad)

Friday (Spaghetti with fixings)

Saturday (Mexican Casserole and steamed veggies)

Breakfast will be provided Friday, Saturday, and Sunday mornings. Please bring your own lunches and beverages. Although Karla will not be able to be our Camp Manager this time, she will be helping with meal preparations so you can count on the same good grub as in years past.

Other things to bring:    Sun Screen – Tent and Sleeping Gear – Gear for Eating/Drinking – Sturdy Work Boots (no running shoes please) – Long Sleeves and Long Pants are Required - Rain Gear – Back Pack for Day Trips. As this is a dry camp, you should bring 3-4 gallons of water.

Assume that the evenings will be in the 35 – 40 degree range (frost is possible).

PCTA Provides: PPE, tools, training, logistical planning as well as all the coordination with The US Forest Service and reporting.

Work will end early afternoon on Sunday June 22nd so folks have time to get back to town at a decent hour.

Folks who can ONLY make it Saturday and Sunday are welcome too.

Crew Leader:     Bill Hawley  -  please call or mail for additional information:
